I am trying to get all the air out of my 1962 MF 35 diesel, i changed the fuel filter and noticed 2 lines coming out of the filter and going to the injector pump, is one of those a return line?? i took the rear one loose and pumped the manual pump a good bit but it would still not wanna run over a few seconds, just wanna make sure i'm bleeding the right one or is there a fitting on the pump inself i need to loosen?

On my MF 3 cylinder Perkins there is a small bleeder on the rear of the fuel pump. It comes out at the left side of the top of the pump. HTH Everett Mi

Sometimes I have had to go back 3 or 4 times to get all the air out. Finally it gets out. Makes you want to leave the filters in till the engine quits running due to fuel starvation. HA.! My Ford"s are really bad about it.

If you don"t get there, I have manuals out in the shop and I"ll research the topic for you.

HTH.

Sounds odd, but maybe you were sloshing fuel when you moved cause you still had air in there. If no air there should be no difference in moving or staionary.

i finally got it all out to where it would run, but the funny thing is when i would try to move it, the tractor would die, i would have to do the process all over again, finally i could get it to move and be ok, sitting still it would run good but anything other than that seemed to put air back in the system again, beats me. I had no idea what was going on at that point i was about to set it on fire!!

One line going out, two lines going in. Probably arrows are on the filter head showing direction of flow. There are a couple of bleed nipples on the pump body. May also be a spill-return into the line somewhere. All connections need to be airtight and both nipples on the pump need to be air free, as well as the filters purged of air.
