There should be a little aluminum plate underneath the hood that has a series of numbers on it to identify the production. Should start with a number then a letter. If you search on the ford portion of this site I have posted a detailed way to read this. If the aluminum plate is not there, I think there is a serial number stamped into the tractor on the left side at the top of the bell housing, but I can"t remember if that is right or not. If so, it is right above where the couple mounting holes are at.

Jeff: I doubt if I'll be able to help you much. I picked up on that as years ago I had two neighbors, one on each side of me. One guy had a Ford 4000 and the other guy had a Deere 4000. I farmed with Farmalls myself. All good tractors in my opioion.

I noticed you more so because of you name, Higgins, my home town was 40% Higgins, 50 years ago. They settled there in the 1700s. Since that time they've spread out across this continent. This was in Nova Scotia and there was even a school section in my area called Higginsville. The only other place I've seen that is a place called Higginsville MO. Some of those Higgins' in my home town are quite heavy into old iron as well. I supose you could be one of them, never thought of that. If not, and you wish to know more send me an email.
