Has anyone tried to burn diesel in a kerosine heater. Kerosine is up to $3.00/gal around here.

My torpedo heater says you can burn K-1, diesel or JP-8 in it but I burned diesel in it and it did smell a bit more than the K-1. I use it in the garage attached to the house so I don't want alot of smell. Might be okay for a shed or barn. Diesel is only 10-15 cents cheaper around here.

I tried it in my radiant wick style heater once and it really smells bad. It was about time for a new wick anyway so I thought I'd try it to see.

IF, you are asking about using it in a Wick type heater, do not use #2 Diesel in it, period. It will trash the wick, I have used #1 Diesel, but #2 will not work.

FWIW: I have been told its the dye in the diesel that causes the wick to go belly up. All I know is someone in the area mistakenly put gasoline in their heater. Two people died as a result of the mistake.

If you are talking about one of those torpedo shaped shop heaters, then yes, diesel fuel works very well. If you are talking about the radiant type that you can use inside the house, don't know, probably would burn but would be smelly and sooty.

Lumberjack, that is highway robbery. Try to see if you can find it not in a premeasured can. Our local fuel supplier carries it and you just pump whatever you want for lots cheaper than 7 bucks a gallon. Check with the places that farmers get their fuels.
