Have a 83 ford pickup with a bad 300-6 engine. Have a chance to get a ford 300-6 engine from an older New Holland combine. How will this work? Thinking this engine has a pulling camshaft so I will get better gas milage. Or is it lower compression so milage will drop?

Hard to say. You will want to remove the governor setup and probably use the intake, carb and exhaust from your existing engine. If you have emission testing, it is a crap shoot if it would pass. I sure wouldn't tell the inspector.

You might be able to get the industrial engine specs from New Holland or Ford. Probably not too different than the pickup engine?? Might be a cheap way to keep a pickup on the road. Good luck!

Don"t know for sure, but I doubt that the compression would be any lower. Don"t know about the camshaft. The engine on the combine would be an industrial engine, and I think that is the same engine that was installed in the medium duty trucks when the 300 was specified. It is possible that the end of the crankshaft may not be drilled to accept the pilot shaft of a manual transmission.
