I just bought a 1940 H which sat for several years without running. I overhauled the carb, cleaned out the sediment bowls and screens, filed the mag points and put new spark plugs in. It now runs good except when running at full throttle. After about two or three minutes it will sputter and die. It will start right back up, but two or three minutes later it will do it again. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dennis.

I'd guess it is either flooding out, or starving for fuel.

Could be a bad/heavy float.. dirty carb, or plugged screen / valve.. etc.

Sounds like the normal dirty tank problem. You probably have some junk floating around in the tank that is clogging the sediment bowl and lines. One way to check to see if that is the problem is to remove the drain plug at the bottom of the carb and see if you get a good flow of gas and also how long you get that flow of gas.

I have a 1947 Farmall H and suffer a similar problem. I've found that gunk (water, rust, etc.) in the gas tank is the primary problem. This causes the gas line to clog and/or the float needle to either stick closed or open, thus the symtoms you describe. It's not a simple problem to fix. As of yet I'm still working on mine. The solution will probably be to take the gas tank off, clean it thoroughly and coat the inside with some type of sealer. As of yet, I haven't backed up to doing this yet.

might try cleaning out the connection between the sediment bowl and the tank, mine was plugged up and since I cleaned it no more problems
