This weekend I am going to look at some "old John Deeres" that have been offered to me. They need restoration and are supposed to be complete. I was told they think ones a B and ones a G. Not sure. The man that owned them was going to restore them, got cancer, and unfortunately passed in November. His widow told me that she would just love for me to have them and restore them in his honor so to speak. I'm young, capable and have a little money because Im not married yet. So I think I can tackle this task. Do you start at scrap prices for something like that? She might try to give them to me but I'd like to offer her something. Regardless I wont take advantage of her, I was raised better. Also at what point do you say that isnt restorable and how difficult would it be to rebuild it. Any advice is appreciated. Also i have seen a rough 520 "southern special" in a vacant lot what do you offer for it? Thats my weakness is I see lots of potential restore tractors but have no clue where to start bargaining. Thanks Caleb sorry for the long post

If she absolutely, positively will not take anything for the tractor(s)- avoid guilt by donating something to her favorite charity in her name.

Sounds like you just need to follow your better judgement. Make her a reasonable offer, if they are complete maybe a little higher than scrap value. But if she is going to give them to you take them, then get one restored for her and her husband's benefit. There is nothing wrong with accepting a gift.
Also there was no 520 Southern Special. Maybe it is a vegetable tractor? Single front? Just don't let the seller convince you it is a super-rare "southern special" as there was no such machine.

The best way to get up on prices on old tractors or cars, ect is to watch the want and for sale adds around your area.If the lady is in need of money offer her what you think is a fair price. There are those that would tell her that she has junk and just haul them off.If on the other hand she just wants to see one running for her husband if you take them be sure to finish 1 for him.Good Luck

Drop the pride thing & accept this gift . Just bless her by fullfilling a dream she knows her husband had . Ken

It would seem you have a good heart. Follow it.
Right is always right and wrong is always wrong. But you already know that. BTW....just let some human female know you got a heart like that and you won't remain single for long. Best to keep that to yourself..... jim

If that happened around here there would be jocky's standing in line to take advantage of her,or charge her to take them.A widow about 3 miles from me just sold a JD 2510 diesel for $250.It had set in the barn for a couple years and hadn't run.
