I think you cant judge an old tractor that you havent personally owned since the day it come out of the factory. You never know how well the previous owners maintained it. I dont think you should judge all of the 2010's crappy just because one you had was crappy.

2 things that were wrong with the 2010 you will not have becasue the gas engine is a very good engine, same as used in round back 45 combines, the deisel was bad but ran with absoultay no care, and the other thing was only on the rowcrop utility, not on the rowcrop and that is the clearance between the steering wheel and the hydrolic controls, the row crop has clearance but the utility you would break your hand trying to get that hydrolic lever if ground was a bit rough. I would like to own one like that but just don't have the money. It will pull 3-14" plows with no problem. I would take one at anytime over a 3010-3020-4010-4020 series

Chris,

My dad bought one of those guys brand spankin' new. Never gave a bit of trouble.

The only drawback was that it was just about totally worthless on our operation. Not enough weight in the rear quarters and not much power; it couldn't do much except handle very light chores.

My biggest complaint with 2010 was the brakes. The tractor was around 30+ yrs old when the brakes wore out beyond what adjusting would help. The JD dealer told us it would cost more to fixx them right then the tractoer was worth. So I used it a few years with poor/no brakes . This was a gas 2010 with a loader. Other than that it was a decent tractor for its age. Hyd filter did need to be cleaned every couple years, shift linkage never gave alot of trouble but I kept it oiled up and kept tractor under cover. The other thing different was it had 14" front tires and 36" rears. The 14's got harder to find last time I needed one in a 3 rib tractor tire.I suppose you could use car tires if necessarry.

I had a diesel 2010, pure junk. It was always one
thing or another and the parts were costly. I had
to rebuild the engine and about every other part
on the tractor and when I was finished it was still junk. Hard to start, smoked, and things just
broke or fell off at night when it was parked in
the barn. Traded it in for another tractor and the
dealer could not fix it any better then me. It went to auction and no bids. It finished me with
JD to this day. I would look for something with a
better track record.

The fenders are missing,it has the wrong seat and about a gallon of bondo in the front of the hood, probably been a loader tractor at one time.

FWIW: One yesterday, Sat., sold at auction for $4000.00 or a bid or two over that. That green paint sells high.

The 2010 gassers were decent tractors, and that one looks like a gasser. Also looks like someone retrofitted an alternator to it. Both the Diesels and gassers had the infamous "sleeve-and-deck" cylinder configuration in which the cylinder liners were joined together at the top in a plate that fit between the block and head. The cylinders in this design were harder to seal from the coolant. The vibrations would eventually cause lower liner seal failure in the Diesels. The gassers held up as well as anything else so this was mainly a Diesel issue. Also, the sleeve-and-deck design cost more for overhaul parts. Deere changed this design in 1965 when they went to the 2020 design which had conventional wet sleeves and a different chassis design. That said, if the tractor is in good mechanical shape, it should make you a good little rig for the price (maybe you can deal them down a little armed with some knowledge about the tractor). It is 45 HP so if that is the size range you are happy with it should make a decent rig. That is big enough for a haying tractor and brush hogging with a 5 or 6 foot cutter. Excuse the long post, just my $0.02. Good luck.

Looks nice. Would be nice to have in the barn.

But we used to try to work with a 2010 back in the 70's... Note the word try... If you have little to do and lots of free time to fix tractors a 2010 is a great machine. If you have real work to do get a real tractor. The 2010 was maybe the worst tractor ever made by JD.

But it does look nice.

I had one. I'm not a 2010 fan. Transmission may be weak, but main problem is that the shifter mechanism is hard to keep adjusted. There are adjustments under the left floorboard.
The hydraulic system gets clogged up easily. The hydraulic filter is accessed at the bottom right of the transmisson. It is a steel mesh filter which can be cleaned out with air and gas, but it has to be replaced after a couple of cleanings. The one pictured looks like it was sheltered and taken care of.
The 2010 has a good independent PTO and the good heavy JD 3ph. Power steering is fairly good.
I think hyd. pump is 10 or 11 GPM.

Good luck,
KEH

Even though I'm a JD man, I would have to say there are much better choices out there. This tractor was weak from the day it left the factory.Sorry to burst your bubble.
