I've been playing with google earth and thought if I had your address I could see what your farm stead or farm looks like. If anyone wants to give me their address my e-mail is open. Been trying to thing of the negitive effects of this but don't seem to be bad.

Maybe no one wants me to know but I will email mine to who ever wants it.

Does anyone know much about google earth why you can zoom in more in some places but not in others.

IaGary

Here's my place from google earth. I added the red lines for my property boundaries. I have 42 acres. You can see my house in the top right corner. Hard to get a feel from a satellite picture but the canyon dropping off the north side of the property is about 200 feet deep to the bottom. Also the picture looks a little off color to me.

Here's a picture off my back porch looking north toward the canyon.

Am I missing a memo. How did you get such good resoulution. If I zoom in that close my farm just looks like someone smeared peanut butter across the screen. I can't make out any buildings.

Okay, I guess I wasn't using google earth.

I just look up my address in google and then click on satellite view.

Link to Satellite view of my house

The little button is a little bit off of my house. My physical address doesn't really exist per the post office. Don't come steal my stuff though!

My older brother has it on his laptop. I can't do my tractor-hunting from the computer, ;-) but I can map out the places where I spotted some old iron.

And, I can see my house! ;-)

Can't really tell you where I live. I depend on a lot of landmarks that are tough to explain to find where I am on Google Earth.

A fun gadget though!

In Wis the counties offer GIS which is a program that has aerial photos of properties and will identify individual plots and lots with complete assessor info and taxes paid, owed, etc. The photos are very clear and fairly recent. Google Earth only shows my farm as a cartoon which is probably appropriate. Google Earth is pretty neat though, for those areas they have photographed.

How do I access this GIS? I live in Walworth county near the Illinois border. Thanks

Just checked out my farm and I didn't even recognize it. It must be over 5 years old, cause there is still a hedge up the middle and it's obvious that the upper 30 acres is still fallow.

I think the quality may vary depending on when the photos were taken. Bagdad is very good and my farm is pretty poor.

One of the reasons is national security. I live near an Arsenal and certain areas are left blurry. My property is just west of there and so just out side of the blurry zone.

Hi Gary,

I live so darned far out in the county that the satellites don't even fly over.

This last shot was done in May of '99; that would have been 7 years ago. :>)

If you go west of North Liberty IA to Greencastle Ave and go north off of 250th to first on the east thats mine. And I don't know how you do all those image transfers and outline and all that stuff. I'm just to stupid I guess.

Hi Gary,

That's called a "screen shot" or "snap shot". Back in the days of DOS, one used the "prt scr" button to send the screen data out to the printer.

With the advent of the GUI, that button now just throws the entire screen into the clipboard memory.

I just open the image editor and "paste", size it and save it as a jpg file.
