You have received good info. My dads dealer-
ship had to order one. We selected an 871
and we couldn't sell till I painted it the
red and grey. At this point you may be glad
yours is gold?? Chuck

Here's what the regular colors are. I borrowed this picture from the photo gallery on this site....it isn't my tractor. This one happens to have a wide front, but they were also available as a narrow front (2 wheel) or a single tire tricycle.

As for the gold paint, 1959 was the year the Select-O-Speed transmission was introduced. Each dealer was required to buy one gold tractor equipped with the new SOS tranny to use as a demonstrator. I've read estimates that there were approximately 2600 dealers back then so you can figure about that many gold tractors were produced. Not all the gold tractors were 901's because the dealer could choose which model he wanted as his gold demonstrator. I've also read that it's possible that a few dealers got more than one gold demonstrator.

Verifying a true gold demonstrator can be difficult because it's easy to forge one (garden variety Ford and a can of gold paint is all it takes). A real gold demonstrator should have a serial number in the 66000 range.

Darrell, post this on the Ford forum. I'll bet those guys can tell you all about them. I'd like to run upon one for reasonable price, when my ship comes in !
