Hi all, I've been looking for a flat belt about 50-60 ft in continuous loop about 6inch wide to run a buzz saw. The one I have is on it's last legs. Are they hard to find or what? Thanks, Jim

Hi all, Thanks for the info on the belting. I know where there is some 12 in. conveyor belting. I didn't know you could cut it. I thought it may just unravel on the cut edges. I will try it. Thanks again Jim W.

On some other discussions about this, some guys said that they hit the repair shops and can usually get the used belts that were taken out of the balers for little to nothing. Haven't tried it myself, but it is a thought. As always, be careful of the ebay belts. Look at the pics real close. A lot of these are pretty rotten and may not last as long as the one you already have.

I know of some old conveyor belting. It is rubber coated on both sides with some sort of reinforcing fabric in the center. The big problem is it is 24 inchs wide. Do you think one could cut that down to the width you needed or would that just be an excercise in futility.

Tomturkey, very easy--get a pack of utility knife blades, a utility knife, straight 2 x 6 = 20 and three to four pair of vise grip. A helper would be good. Lay the belt on a flat surface--a 2 x 12 = 20 would be best. Clamp the belt to the 2 x 6 and cut along the side of it, lay your knife as flat as possible and take your time to do it correct the first time. several passes may be needed, but a half hr. will be enough time with a helper. I have never tried it to a old leather belt, just rubber. Dave NE IA

I have had good luck using old flat belting from a round baler. But it is also a little on the expensive side but tough as anything and dont slip as quick as the ole leather ones.

If you have a quarry supply near you they should be able to supply you with one.

Jim --

The belting is available, but it ain't cheap by any means.

The source I found gets $5.25 per linear foot for new 6-inch 3-ply belting, or $7.50 for 4-ply. Doing the math real quick, that comes to $262.50 for 50 feet or $315 for 60 feet of the 3-ply, and $375 for 50 feet or $450 for 60 feet of the 4-ply. Remember, those prices are for 50 or 60 linear feet; once you lace the ends together you'll have a 25- or 30-foot distance from your buzz saw to its power source. And the shipping for a belt that size is bound to be considerable, as well. As I said, it ain't cheap.

I did a quick search on eBay and came up with a couple of belts; eBay item #7589089634 is a 6-inch belt that's 45 feet long, and opening bid was 99¢. Item #7588206276 is almost 99 feet long, opening bid is $16.

I've had good luck finding 6-inch belting at auctions or farm sales.

Good luck -- I hope you find what you need, and at a civilized price.
