Hi everyone, I was bush-hogging today and I guess I hit something and the tractor and the bush-hog stopped. I disengaged the PTO and tried to start it again and it acted like there was no juice in it. This is also after jiggling the wires that lead to the ignition (which is usually standard procudure for this thing) to try and get it to start.

It didn't so, depressed I went and took a nap as I was tired.

So. I go back out and I jiggle the wires and the starter works, and the fan belt turns and the engine is cranking but there is no spark/combustion this is with the throttle all the way open as well as the choke.

I could see a blue spark inside the starter if that helps - the tank has clogged the fuel line before with varnish and this time and last time I dumped sea foam in it to get rid of it - this time it didn't work (as it start up I put sea-foam in there the last time I put gas in the tractor two weeks ago.)

I guess I should start my line of questioning with:

Is it the fuel line clogged? The tractor sat for 12 years before I had it sent to the shop so there is rust in it.

Is it something more serious like I broke something major inside that old bull's belly when the PTO shaft broke?

The shear pin which I replaced with one from TSC (the rotary cutter is a 80s King Kutter and I had to replace the PTO shaft on the cutter and I reused the original shear bolt and that sheared and it was replaced) but this one didn't break...

I'm sorry if this comes across as disjoined - I know trouble shooting via the internet is a pain...I tried to be as thorough as possible.

Every internal combustion engine in the world needs 3 things in the proper sequence to run. Fuel, compression and ignition in that order. Make that the order of your trouble shooting and see what you do or don't find.

This happened to me once on a Ford 801. Hit something (not very hard) and she shut down and wouldn't start. It turned out to be the timing gear on the crank or the camshaft had been cracked awhile by the looks of the cracks and it finally gave way with that last shot. I'm not sayin that is your problem and mine was a diesel but, if you have spark and fuel she should at least try to fire unless the timing is gone, which if that's the case you'll have to find out why. It just seems kind of coincidental that it shut down after contacting something and it turns and doesn't start. Good luck and I hope you get her going without major problems.

Tools needed for touble shooting (1) test lite (2) creset wrench . If ya got juice to the coil and to the pionts and ya have fuel to the carb and the timming is close it should start . IT hard making a tractor run thru this keybaord .

I'd start by getting a new ignition switch and making sure the wire connections are tight. Trouble shoot for spark. I pop the distibutor cap off and open and close the points with a screwdriver with the switch on. You should have a strong blue fire from the primary coil wire as the points open.

Sorry - I forgot posting the model, its Massey-Ferguson 135 Deluxe Gas. I'm sorry I forgot its been a long day...as for gas out the carb - I tried the screw that has the spring on it and cranked nothing. I didn't have my pocket tool on me at the time before I left as it was too dark to unscrew the bleeder at the bottom of the carberator bowl and I was starting to get tired (College is 1.5 hours away from home where the tractor is and I-70s a bear to drive at night.)

When I was cranking it I could smell fuel if that helps - the next time block I have to work on this thing is Thursday and i'd be leaving right after work. The fuel filter is brand new that was replaced 2.5 weeks ago after the valve gasket fiasco was dealt with.
