Hi Guys,

Made some adjustments on the plowing depth of the plow yesterday, which let me run in the sod without taking off that rear set of bottoms.

Trying to outrun some wet weather in the forcast, so rode that screamin' old sow until mama made me stop and come home last night.

Both I and the wallet are pretty much black and blue this morning. I feel like I've been thru an old fashioned fist fight and the old tractor is drinkin' diesel fuel in $100 gulps.

But, I think if I can toughen up and put in one more big day, I'll just about have that darned 54 acres of sod flipped underground.

Gettin' old is downright painful at times. :>(

Oh Shoot,

I learned that little lesson when I was 10 years old. Haven't carried a wallet to the field since. :>)

Allan,

Just wait till you start bouncing over that rough sod with your tractor and disk, now that will be rough! Bet it will take at least two passes to work it down to.

Hi Ol' Pard,

Yep, ya know, I've never ran a disc over plowed ground in my life, as I've always got away with the packer. But now, I'm really startin' to wonder on this mess.

I think this crap just might need a disc as matted and root infested as it is. Hope to get 'er straightened out by a Sept 10 planting date.

You guys still dealin' with the snow up your way?

Allan

Snow is gone around here but the mud is not. We have been getting an inch or so of rain every other day so the mud is bad, cattle are doing a good job of renovating the pastures. Had to park the 706 and get the Maxxum with mfd out just to get hay to the cattle. Getting a good start on calving the last couple days with 45 of 195 on the ground, calves don't seem to mind the mud haven't had much trouble yet. Starting to get the itch to go work some ground but with the weather forcasts it looks like its going to be a couple of weeks at least. I have 20 acres of corn stalks to spring plow for oats so I'll have to post some pics to of the 1066 and the 710 6-16 plow at work.

International plows pull hard but their plowed ground is much easier to work up. Pay me now or pay me later. Plows that pull easier leave ground that makes you pay up when you work that plowed ground. About 50 years ago I was the Pennsylvania plow boy. Been there, done that.

I can't wait to get my 966 in the field. Looks like the doctor is going to keep me constrained from work for about 7 weeks. My surgery was suppose to be 15-30 minutes but was 2 1/2 hours.

That's why those fancy NEW tractors with cabs and air conditioning and heat and air or hyd. ride seats are so popular.

Hi Bob,

Went out there with good intentions. However, wind was right at 40 knots, 43 degrees and spitin' rain. So, I just left the old darlin' hitched to the fuel barrel for today. :>)

Bob, what is "cross plowing"? I'm not familiar with the term?

OH how well i can relate to that after bouncing over the plowed ground disken thursday running around friday then spending yesterday moving stuff around and replacing one moldboard on the plow that got broke somehow just setting over winter ????? and then finding out that someone hit the read right hand wing on the disk and bent and broke it half off ???? now tryen to bend it back into shape and make a new mounting plate all the up down layen on cold ground the old knees and back and shoulders and lower back are stiif and sore . Have to go to the steel supply tomarrow and get a 4 x 9 5/8 pice of high carbon for a new plate cut two slots in it and some 3/4 bar stoct to mount the eyebolts back on with and weld that back on the end of the gang then also get more oxy and act to heat and twist the wing back . Had to use what was left in the tourches to strighten the one coulter that i bent on a rock that i found that i do not remember being there the year before.

People who plow shouldn't complain about fuel prices or wind. Glyphosate was invented for a reason.

Oh to be 12 again Allen. I used to love to run a tractor. Now once around and I've had enough fun for one day. Let somebody younger enjoy it.

Boy that"s a nice looking Allis in that plow day picture. Brings back a lot of memories. My dad farmed most of his life with a WD-45, WD, and Oliver 60.

The WD was narrow front and he plowed with that until he got the wide front 45. I remember how he had to fight to keep the front wheels out of the furrow when he was plowing in heavy ground with the WD. To him the 45 was like heaven, until the last years he farmed when he brought an Oliver 1750 with a cab and power steering.

Oh well...no point to this...just reminicsing (sp) after seeing that picture.

Larry

that young man has no idea how lucky he is to be sitting on a tractor . most kids his age haven't a clue as what life is about . what he is learning now will stay him through life . a few hard knocks now will soften some of lifes bumps as he gets older .
