ok i got the chance to buy an amd 64 ECS K8T890 socket 939 for $35 brand new in the package will this fir inplace of the pent three on my old dell gx1?

Last time i looked at a dell PC.. they had many of the legacy ports on the m-board.. your new mboard would have to have the connectors in the back match up.. what's the chances of that?.. Course.. many replacement mboards have their legacy slots piped over to exp port blanks.. so might work. Worst case is you get a 35-50$ case somewhere and swap over your HDD.. Check to see what memory each board uses..

Intel and AMD chips are NOT interchangable. You have to have a motherboard designed for AMD in order to use AMD. Intel and AMD each have thier own propriatory socket designs.

AFAIK, AMD Socket # 939 ain't gonna be compatible with anything INTEL!!!
