Marv,

Finally remembered your pictures. Like I say, I've seen three variations of these clamps. A snap over center arrangement, a simple hook and eye and these goofy things.

Hope it helps,

Allan

I have a few of those goofy things and was wondering what they were. I threw them in the scrap bucket! If anyone wants them they can pay the postage.

On our 1070 Case we tried to get by with 4 per side one year while disking (for some reason we had "lost" a couple over the winter). Got into a little spot where the duals actually had to bite and we twisted/bent every one of the rods when the duals slipped. I think in most situations 4 would be fine but we never used less than 6 after that.

Hey Allen,

Don't you need about twice as many as you have there? Dad always put about 8 on the 4430. We've since moved to the fancy pants axle mount type.

Dunno,

I've never been around those big tractors.

I know the "eye" style only has four eyelets per rim. The outside rim will "wedge" into the inner rim and once they are planted, I think two would probably hold 'em on okay.

Darned things sure seem to "grow" together; and I've never had one slip, anyway.

Allan

It depends on the size of the tire, and the purpose. Our Massey 285 w/ 18.4-34's only requires 4 per side. Our Ollie 1855 w/ 18.4-38's is supposed to have 6 per side from what I undersatnd, but we still only use 4 because the tires on the duals are smooth as a baby's butt and are only used to carry the extra weight, not for traction purposes. I've been running the 1855 this way for 3 years now and haven't had any problems, not even a slight twist.

I checked my dual rims this morning and they do have a 9 lug pattern. If anyone knows where there is a deal on a set of adapters let me know.
