Hello i have a question about the steering linkage on a 1942 VAC. My grandpa owns two 1942 VAC's both with different steering linkages in the front of the tractor. One the arm makes a swooping bend and the other meets with a joint and a 90 degree angle. If someone could differentiate these two steering arms for me that would be nice. Thanks

According to my info, the VAC had a steering similar to the CC and Case changed the VA series steering arm configuration on June 12, 1943.

Case used letter combinations to ID models.
1940-early 1941 Case built the V series (V, VI, VO, and VC which I have). The VA series (VA which I have, VAC, VAI, VAO) was a "post-war" remake of the V series with the originally intended overhead valve Case engine and other improvements. The V and W series were the only Case tractors to have a non-Case engine (both Continental F-124) until very modern models. The reason for the non-Case engine was to get production out before war production came in. (WWII was raging around the world, the US just wasn"t all in yet).

Any way the sweeping steering linkage (curved arm that goes into the pedistal) is a VC (no later than "41) and should have that flat head F-124 engine. The other from your description is a VAC (post war).

Another way to tell the two series apart is the V series had the brakes housed insited the axel housings (meaning a brake job needed all but the trans pulled apart in the rear). The VA series moved them into thier own houseing under the deck plates just in front of the axles.
