I know there are some people on here from the area and have a question. We are meeting my brother in law to pick up his daughter to take her skiing for spring break, we"re going to stay Friday night and have breakfast, maybe go through the museum there. Any recommendations about where to stay, where to eat? I know there isn"t much there (my kind of town), so looking for local knowledge. Thanks for any info.

I just love that car museum. I could spend all day there.

The last time I was there I was in a motor home so we stayed at some bargain rate KOA type of place.

If you like good food in a real 50's decor restaurant with prices almost to match...try the Star Restaurant. Great home style cooking and friendly folks.☺

Should have added more info I guess, but good info so far. Going to be coming up from Valentine (through North Platte, fron NE Colorado). Beautiful country, love the sandhills area, anyway, we have been through there several times on the way to Fargo, so I know there's stuff there, but I'm sure that like the town I grew up in (Akron Colorado), there are plenty of places to stay and to eat, but there is A place to stay and A place to eat if you know the area... Thanks again.

Boy,

It's been a lot of years under the bridge, but seems to me like there was a place on the west side of main street called "The Silver Dollar" (er, some such thing) that would have ya chasin' chickens in the rafters if ya stayed in there long enough. :>)

You're maybe thinking of the Silver Dollar in Fort Pierre when they had the Turkey Races on Deadwood Ave. Boy, those steaks at the Chateau were good!

Lots of places to stay there, SD is a "tourist" state - Murdo is right on I-90 & they have several motels. You won't need a reservation, just pick one that looks good-probably still on "winter" rates, too. (Some might not be open yet, but a couple will be, I've not stayed in Murdo for a long time, as I'm usually just passing through.) There is a place to eat right in the entrance to the museum, a truck stop right across the street-both have good food, nothing "fancy", though. Murdo is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours out of Rapid City & they have LOTS of motels, but rates are quite a bit higher than they would be in Murdo. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Several motels. Have stayed at a nice one there. Get off exit and go north to stop sign. Go left half mile and on the right. Don't remember the name. Can leave by going west to the west exit.

Restaurant I believe on the right after exiting north before the stop sign.
