Prince PTO Pump for Loader

I've got a MF 34 loader on my IH 2400 (454) tractor. It's a 39 hp tractor. I've got a 540 and a 1000 rpm PTO shaft available to use and install a Prince PTO pump. The loader has four double acting cyls. I’d say it’s a medium size loader.

My questions: Is one rpm shaft better suited for this application than the other and what gpm size pump for the application? Prince has a wide range, from 12 to 21 gpm. Thanks.

540 pto should more than enough rpm. All the old Farmhand pumps used to run on 540 and they pumped plenty of oil. It depends on how the pump is made.

You need to do your homework better. What size cylinders bore and stroke do you have and how much time do you want then to take to extend. Also if your 540 pump does not have a speed up kit I would stay away from it as most gear pumps are not effecient below 1000-1200 RPM. Also remember all hydraulic pumps are rated on theoretical displacement. Allow 85% of theoretical to get actual flow. Questions?

I looked at the specs for the Prince 11 GPM pump sold by Northern Tool. It specifies 540 RPM. Not sure what would happen if you spun it at 1000 RPM, but it probably wouldn't be good. Your call.

I would say to use the 1000rpm pto and also I would go with say the 12 GPM pump because if you have to many GPM your loader will work to fast which can be unsafe. All the loaders I have have 8-9GPM pumps on them. Ones on a ford 841 which is about the same size tractor as you uave, it also have the front mounted pump which means its spinning over at more then 1000 rpm

While I agree that most pumps should run in the 1000 RPM range, the Prince is designed specifically for 540 PTO- even has the 540 spline hookup. I think I would stick with 540.

Well yes of course ifthe pump is set up for the 540 type pto that is what you would need to use but not all pumps are set up that way he would have to read the info that came with the pump to see which would work.
