Clean a Diesel Tank

Hey Gentlemen, seems I have a problem with fuel tank, it is half full of what looks like remains of a bird nest. Even has feathers in it. Not only that, everything is soaked in diesel

Made a hook to pull stuff out can get a little at a time, but with this method will take forever and still will leave lots of debris in tank.

Anyone ever use acid to dissolve stuff like this and then flush tank. I used some acid in a drain field, that was clogged with tree roots, it turned everything to black slime. Then I flush pipe out with lots of water, was clean as new.

OR cut a square hole in backside of tank, reach in and pull everything out,and then patch hole. I can run steam cleaner in tank before I cut, I used to do this before welding gas tanks.

Any and all suggestion greatly appreciated
Thanks

Keith & Shawn

My oldest son decides one day since he was mad at me for something, hed go out and put some grass in the gas tank on my M.I took it off and plugged the sedimant bowl hole, filled it with water and dumped it.This allowed the grass to float to the top and when I drained it most of it came out.Unfortunately there was still some in there that would not come out,so I took the tank to a professional radiator man and he wasable to flush the rest out.(My oldest son got his butt burned that day!)

Remove tank, add stones, small pieces of scrap non ferrous metal, water and enough detergent to allow water to soak into the nest material. Agitate tank to allow your charge to macerate the material and then wash out thouroughly? Remove any large unbroken feathers
Not much problem with diesel tank exploding at low temps, BUT if ever any trace of gas has got in there .....so NEVER ever worth finding out!! So, no steel pieces of scrap, even.
I would probably clean it with a pressure washer!

Don't think there is going to be an easy way. I think I would remove the tank from the tractor, and then turn it upside down and let it drain for several days. The foreign material might be easier to dig out once it is dry. Had a bird build a nest in the chimney of the house once, tried snagging it with a wire and pulling it out, gave up on that, poured a little diesel fuel down the chimney, struck a match and dropped it in. Bird nest was gone in just a few seconds. Don't think you would want to try that in a fuel tank though.

Hey rusty I have one he!! idea, I'll ship it to you and you put in diesel and lite it for me.:>):>) It will bge shipped back to me AIRMAIL..LOL

Maybe the bird will be it tank also,

Tank is already off of the tractor, usually first thing I do is remove tanks, easier to clean off the tractor.

I drained out 5 gal. of fuel, when I tried to take tang off before I drained it felt like it was half full, just that much straw inside.

I think I will find that acid tomorrow and try it.
First I have an old tank will try it in that one first.

Sounds like you are haveing fun but not in a good way. Heres an idae but don't know if it will help or not. Hook an air hose to the tank where the sediment bowl should be and turn it up side down and let it blow and let it blow some more. Keith did you ever get my e-mail with the trouble shooting page????? ?????

It depends on how you intrepit it, I said via the output, which means I apply air to the output trying to get it to go out the fill hole. :>)

Old You would not believe how much junk is in this tank. I was amazed when I was attempting to pull it out. :>)
