Tnx for all help so far on my project. Another question, under the seat - right side - on the side of the hyd. unit there is a lever that is about 8-10" long. It seems to have two positions, one vertical and other is pointing aft or to the rear. I am not talking about the hyd. lift selector, the lever in question is mounted directly to the side of the hyd. section. Don't have a clue what it does...help! I will prob. have more questions re. hyd. as mine seem to go DOWN, but will to raise. They seem to hold when up. Might be air as I have been changing fluids trying to eliminate water in system. More on that later.

Is this lever coming out of the round right side cover? Could be the shift lever to a Howard gear reduction unit. Post a pic.

jim

Jim, Just to let you know I sent him a picture and what it is, is the draft/position control.

Thanks old. Length of the lever thru me off. I get this nitemare feeling again every time I get to feeling like someone has a Howard and doesn't KNOW it. A few months ago, I was showing a guy a Howard I had bought and he said "so THAT'S what that is". Seems he let a tractor with one go to the boneyard without even realizing it's worth. I hot footed it over there and the whole rig was gone. Oh,well..... .

We have an 8n with a handle (missing) coming out the center of the right side inspection plate with the dip stick. It says REDUCTION GEAR. Is this a Howard and if so where can we find/buy a handle? If you have time would appreciate any further info as to use etc>
Thanks
Lou

Know what you mean I see to many old tractors end up in a scrap place here and the bad thing is they will not sell them, not even for twice what they payed for them. Boy how I hate to see any old tractor cut up to be sent to China

Well it sounds like the position/draft control but you say 8-10 inches, thats to long to be that now if its more like 3 or 4 inches thats what it probably is. Shoot drop me an e-mail and I can send you picture and pages from an NAA owners manual that I have. My e-mail is open and all you have to do is click on where it says e-mail. There is a lever on the left side that is about that long but its for the PTO.
