Anybody have any information on the W engine, I have recently purchased one and don't know that much about it

The W engine is like the D tractor engine but stationary and some variations also. Made 1933 to 52 and maybe longer. 6 3/4" bore and versions made over the years went from 27 HP to 42 HP. There was a W-111, W-113, W-118 and W cotton gin engine and maybe others I don't know about. In the past there have been some excellent articles about them in Two Cylinder magazine and Green Magazine. J.R. Hobbs wrote most of those and covers them some in his book "The John Deere Unstyled Letter Series" that was available from Green Magazine. John Deere technical publications dept. still lists some manuals for the W series engine. Do a exact model search on their site to find manuals and prices at link shown. Also other sites to find out more info. Have fun with it. I've never had a W engine yet but several Ds and would like to find a W engine sometime.

They were a John Deere D engine without the transmission. The guys over on the John Deere board can offer more info. Ron Mn.
