Brain fade on Allis CA Q.

I recently bought an Allis CA non running and have it running great..kindof. It came with a junk zenith, and I had a good one off a power unit, had to change out the throttle shafts, then dang, where did that carb to gov link go? I did a search and found an old C one. Close enough. Had all kinds of problems until I just remembered that I was reading where the side weights on a CA are about 1" longer than a C. That must mean the engines about 1" longer too! D'oh. Yup, the link is too short. Problem solved.

Q. Tractor Data.com shows horsepower difference of only 1 between my old WC and this CA. Does that mean I can sell the WC and plow my garden with my current 2 bottom trip plow, or should I keep the WC instead? I'm thinking the taller 28" tires and more weight might make a big difference, but want to hear from some of you who have used a CA with a 2 bottom plow. (mine does have front side weights) One of them has to go.

I had a '56 CA and it was a fine little tractor. Hindsight being 20-20, I wish i had kept it. It ran so well, easy on gas and did whatever I asked it and more. I hated the brakes...couldn't keep good ones and it needed several little things that now, I would gladly do...but 15 years ago, I wasn't interested in doing. I had the original 2-14" snap coupler plows and it pulled them very easily, I was actually quite impressed with it and boy, did they do a sweet job too. The CA also had the original 7' pick up disc and it was no problem behind it either. I later picked up a '59 JD 430 and it was such a disappointment compared to the little Allis...not even in the same league. Not a bash on Deeres, my next tractor was a Deere and so is the new one under the shed. Allis had something with the CA, plain and simple. What would I have changed? Things many will say unecassary...but I would have had wet brakes, more gears and power steering...a diesel engine would have been a plus, but the gas engine ran very well....always started with the 6 volt system too.

I pull a 2-14 mounted plow with my CA with no problem. I haven't tried a pull type with it, but I think they would pull a little harder. The CA is the tractor to stick with tho, more modern, has hydraulics, and it should have the hand clutch which gives live pto and hydraulic.

Thanks for the info. The hand clutch handle is missing and I'm not sure it has been on it in the past few decades.

I would go out and just plow with it and see, but we just had an all day rain and I wouldn't get 6"!

Mine does have a 3 point hitch set up already on it, so I could always update the plow to a more modern one. (there goes $14 bucks 7 years ago out the window)
