Wifes' 93 Chevy Suburban anti-lock brake light will come on briefly on occasions and then will go off and then sometime later it will come on again briefly. Makes no particular pattern or rythmn. It doesn't seem to make any difference whatever with the stopping ability. Repair shop says it may be a bad sensor in the differential. Question is does this model have only a rear wheel ABS system, or does it have 4 wheel ABS? Anyone have any input on this. It has done this on a few rare occasions for the last 60,000 miles or so, but has gotten worse for the last 100 or so miles she says. Just don't want to get hit with something unexpected on this one. Surburban is in excellent condition and paid for and suits our needs fine. So I really want to put another 100K miles on it if at all possible. It only has 225K miles on it now and I just had to convert it to Freon 134A A/C system to the tune of $700.00 and really like the old bus, especially hen all the children and their families go somewhere together. It delivers 15 MPG loaded or empty and it is very constant on that. Thanks for any advice. Gene Davis

If it has the huge ABS unit on top of the LH fenderwell, complete with it's own electric motor the size of a heater fan motor, it has 4-wheel ABS.

If rear-wheel only ABS, there is a smaller, simpler, ABS unit connected into the brake lines, hanging beneath the master cylinder.

I had a 1992 Sub with similar problem, it turned out the brake light switch (which has other contacts, also) was worn out, and was confusing the ABS computer.

I'm sure a bad wheel sensor is a likely culprit, too. You need to pull the ABS trouble codes, and see where that leads.

Intermittant is usually a bad wire or connection. Not uncommon with that age of vehicle.

If your 93 is like mine it will be the 4 wheel antilock brakes. I will have to agree with you on the reliability. My 93 has almost 250k on it and I have no problem taking it and going and getting a piece of equipment somewhere in this country. I am thinking of getting a target motor as I have noticed that driving through the mountains with a load on my trailer, she just doesn't have the umph like she used to anymore. Other than that it is one fine piece of metal.
