Hey buddy, from your last post it looks like you got your Hydro figured out. What was it and did you have to take it to town? Another question, how do you paint your tractors and not blow paint all over the inside of your garage? I got paint on EVERYTHING down here. Harley

Hi Ol' Bud,

They had told me in town at one time that a hydro rebuild usually ran $5K if it was in the tractor and $2500 if I pull it out. I just didn't wanna go to town if there were any chance that I could fix it here 'cause I figured I could use that money to buy more tractors. Logical thinking?

Anyway, since it pulled strong in one direction, I reasoned that the problem couldn't be too darned serious, could it?

So, having a strong background in automatic transmissions, I just dove into it. Trouble was, hydros are not even close to an automatic transmission. Totally different bird and I had to learn as I went.

When it was all said and done, the problem was a little 1/2" o-ring under the creep adjuster, which lives under the variable orifice on the pump servo. Those variable orifice wafers decide how much oil to "dump" thereby setting the swish plate(s) position.

So, with a leak like that, the tranny thought that the control lever was always back almost at the neutral and it was pulling itself into "slow".

Yep, I've got over spray everywhere, including the wife's Yukon, which just isn't going down very well around here. :>(

Some times its better to be lucky than smart.
In this case, looks like both. If you all haven't figured it out by now, Allan's acting dumb just aint so. In about a week he has completly tore apart, refinished, painted, overhauled a hydo tranny and re-asembled the whole tracror. Sure wish he was my neibour.

Ya, I know, but I got wide shoulders, so I can take it. Ya gotta if ya dish it out like I do. Allan, glad that was just a little rubber thingy and not a whole grocery sack full of dollar bills. Those things have always scared me since they came out in the old 656 years ago. Just didn't sound like a sound idea to me. Guess they are alright for chores and such. Good for you, Harley
