I got nailed as I drove in my driveway tonite(4:15pm). Had my flashers going, SMV sign, and rear light on, in daylite. Slowed down and waited for opposing traffic to go by, and started to make my turn. POW! Ponytail, buzzhead guy in a topaz hit me on my 3pth bar and left rear tire. Thank goodness for loaded tires and front end loader. Kept me upright. The topaz is pretty, much totaled. No one hurt. He got charged. Eyewitness stopped and backed this guy down, when he started to go after me. While sitting in the cruiser, heard the background check on this fella. # failure to appear notices on his record in another province. Officer tried to get in french so I could not hear. Translating offences is not to hard. Officer told me to be sure I have eye contact with road warriors from now on, and absolutely use any and all signals. No damage to tractor, other than slight bends to lock pins in adj. stablizers. Could have been there before. No cuts to tires, hope all is well in a.m.. What else should I check, other than my shorts?

People had ought to look out more for farm machinery. last summer I was coming out of a field on to a gravel road in my Allis Chalmers 200. I had a big bale on the front and was un able to see out in the road to look for cars. Usually there werent any so i started pulling out. When the bale was already out in the road here come some weird lookin guy in one of them little toyota cars. probably doing 50. Luckily I had the loader high enough up it missed his little car. That could have been a big wreck fast. Who would go that fast on a gravel road lined with hay fields and not pay attention. Some people have no common sense.

I don't know about the laws where you're at, but around here, if he hit you in that situation, it would've been your fault. You were driving onto a road without exercising proper caution first. Tractors no more have the right of way than a car. For what it's worth, on a straigh gravel road, I'd probably have been doing 70 or 75 if the visibility was good. Lots of people call me crazy too, but at the very least, I'd have been doing 50, which is the speed limit on our secondary roads.
I would agree though, that people do seldom pay enough attention to farm equipment on the road. They just don't look or excercise any judgement or common sense. I've seen people riding 2' behind a wagon loaded with round bales. If one ever did fall off..... bye bye car. You've just got to cover all the bases when running farm equipment on the road, because if you don't, and something does happen, chances are good that you'll get hung unless the situation is so clear cut that you can't be hung. I'm surprised that Kent didn't get stung for that, because a neighbour of mine had an accident exactly like that a few years ago in a car, had signalled, and was turning in his driveway, and got nailed from behind by a truck pulling out to pass. The old guy that hit him just wasn't paying attention. His car was rolled and written off, and he got the blame. Apperantly, he was supposed to pull off to the right, allow traffic to pass, and then make his turn... or so the pig told him at the time. twas news to me..... The laws just get stranger all the time.

Try rereading that.
"I got nailed as I drove in my driveway tonite(4:15pm). Had my flashers going, SMV sign, and rear light on, in daylite. Slowed down and waited for opposing traffic to go by, and started to make my turn."
Key phrase is as I drove in my driveway

Some people have got to learn to slow down and look where they're going. I was driving my Grey Ferguson on a small back road over the other side of the large pond this past summer and going round a blind bend I got pegged be a guy on a motorbike in the middle of the road going far too fast. He was seriously lucky as his bike hit the front axle and he carried on and ended up just in front of my rear wheel. Good job it was the second day I'd had it back together again after fixing the very sticky clutch. Made a bit of a mess of the tractor but I've got it sorted. SAm in NS

You're a lucky guy. Loaded or not, tractors often lose just as bad. I'd tell you to be careful, but that don't always work.

Was doing a job in rural Illinois today and picked up the customers paper while I was waiting. Front page color photo of a Jeep Cherokee and a new Chevy Tahoe. Witnesses said the Cherokee was doing about 80 in the oncoming lane of a two-lane, passing cars as it hit the Tahoe head on doing about 45 itself. No skid marks. Thats a lot of speed. The passenger in the Cherokee and the young soon to be mother (8.5 months along) in the Tahoe were killed outright. The driver of the Cherokee was dragged out with some burns and other injuries, smelling and breathing like just crawled out of a beer keg. The maximum he can get is 28 years for all of that. Turns out that 3 others in the family of the soon to be mother had been killed under similar conditions in the past as well. Incredible.

Yeah, those long haired guys with ponytails are real trouble makers. If he'd only get a haircut then he wouldn't be such a bad driver. You can spot them a mile away, just driving around in those stupid front-wheel-drive cars looking to drive into some guy on a public road driving his tractor. I mean, he should get himself a pickup truck then he'd be a real man instead of such a wimp. God, I've got no patience with those buzzheads, I mean they should be all in jail and never allowed to drive EVER! Gotta run off to church here, see ya later.

Gawd, Way Up There, you don’t have to be so succinct.

Succinct, (adjective) Giving the exact gist of something, marked by compact precise expression without wasted words.

Your point was made. The enemy is always different. He / she must be a different color, different hair, opposite gender, wearing different clothes, pointy nose, etc. It is human nature to want the adversary to be of a different sect or cult than the one we are accustomed too.

The disturbing thing about stereotypes (another two dollar word) is that they are often accurate. The way a person chooses to present himself says a lot about his attitudes and indirectly, about how he lives his life. And in so doing, how his lifestyle (drive without regard to safety, etc.) will affect innocents who come in contact with him.

I would say "sometimes" accurate, not necessarliy "often", but that is just my opinion. And how they present themselves is really in the eye of the beholder. I mean, who is to say that a guy that grows his hair long and has it in a ponytail is some sort of weirdo-freak? Sometimes, yes but I see all sorts of very conservative-looking individuals, short hair and all the trimmings doing a lot of harm in our society. I think Jesus had long hair and even wore sandals if my memory serves me correct and I am to believe what I read (although that's another story in itself).

My ponytail is probably just the right length for a guy like you. You seem somewhat interested but I'll have to pass, I'm a bit suspicious of guys like yourself wanting to know about my hair style.

Hi Philip! Are you talking Headpond, or Atlantic? If headpond, you can see our farm form the Scotch Lake Road. Stop in. This guy was a commuter from 45 min ,north of here. Speeding, passing on solid yellow line, on a hill. Adds up to trouble doesn't it?
