Cutting tractor tires for traction

Is it possible or advisable to cut into a worn tire with a grinder or some other tool to improve the traction? I have a Case 530 with 6-ply 14.9x24 tires. It had been driven on the road before I got it so the tread is kinda flat. Can you sharpen the tread? Is it even worth the effort? Or am i just going to have to cough up for a new set of tires?
Thanks for any help.

Pullers cut tires all the time but if your going to be useing it on the farm I woulod think that you would be better off getting some new tires. Plus if you cut them you also weaken them and they might blow out at the worse possable time.
