This is what I am looking for....about a 12 to 18 horsepower steiger quad track - yes (12 to 18)

this is what i want - a slow thing (speed not essential) machine which is more like a tractor than an ATV (steering wheel, reverse, electric start) (yes an ATV can be electric and have reverse) possibly articulating something that would do the following.....

haul supplies for fence fixing, misc, haul yard supplies and projects and water wagon in trail behind wagon - maybe pull around a few small square bales - maybe pull an atv sprayer type of deal, pull kids up sledding hill, give the kids something to drive around and learn how to back up, etc.....

the reason i would like the quad track deal is because i could use it for all these same purposes in the winter also - just like a real snow cat or snowmobile type of deal .....

I would like it to be like large lawn mower size - have seen that husquarvana (sp) makes an articulated front mount mower that has all four tires the same size - that is about the the right kind of deal -

not wild about buying a four wheel atv then buying tracks etc, would rather have a slower simpler, maybe homebuilt job..... have also considered a 20 year old kubota tractor without mower - but the winter stuff would be out - any ideas?

also have seen the bobcat things - but they just plain are too exoensive for a toy....

Maybe you could use a second-hand trail groomer, used for ski and snowmobile trails?

Chris, Sounds to me like what you are looking for is a Ditch-Witch type machine, minus the trenching unit. Veemers old "Diggin Dutchman" fits that bill too. Most are all 4x4,either gas or DSL depenging on the age of the unit. will fit up on a 16 ft utility trailer. Hope this helps.
Later,
John A.

First buy an old gas golf cart and put a good trailer hitch on the back. You'll be surprised to see how much it can do. It will be a hit with the kids and most adults, and pretty safe to operate.

Then with the money you have saved pick up a more specialized machine to do the rest.

Look at Pasquali, not common in US . Used in orchards and bends in the middle.

Ditch Witch in Springfield Il. has a Vermeer M485 tractor with backhoe, trencher, and blade that would be perfect for what you want. Possibly to big. 70 plus HP diesel with hydrostat. Remove all attachments and have a real workhorse. Four post ROPS that could easily be enclosed for winter.

How about striping the trencher/back hoe/ditcher off of one of those outfits. Got to be some model that would work. Might come cheap if the tool end was wore out.

How about a pug. Designed for slower speeds and have dump box where you could haul bales and fence supplies.
