I"m looking for links to sites or some info on developing a hydraulic system (maybe a simple schematic), in particular a system for a home built front end loader I"m putting on my tractor. I realize it"s not rocket science but I want to make sure i do it right and efficiently. My loader has two double action cylinders for the arms and a single double action cylinder for the bucket. I was going to plumb in a remote to operate a log splitter and/or a hydraulic top link as well. I planned originally on using the tractors system (Ford 660) to run all this but I recently obtained an external pump so that might be pressed into service.

Do you have any dimensions as far as bore size and length os storke. That information is necessary to detemine how much flow (GPM)) you need. Also remember one thing when you look at hydraulic schematics. Most are for industrial hydraulics not mobile hydraulics which is a sytem on a vehicle. Some symbols are the same some are not. Got a U. S. mail address I can send you a ton of stuff. I teach some fundamental hydraulic classes. Questions?

A good site to look around on for hydraulic info is the Machinery Lubrication site.

Jeff your best bet would be to use th external pump as Fords punps do not pump enough volume. Where as your laoder would be might slow.

All Fords I have seen with loaders, have external pump that runs off the front of the crankshaft. That is how I plan on running mine. I have several pumps, couple off forklifts and one off of a IH combine.HTH

Be careful in doing this. You may need a flow divider valve for the two cylinders for the lifting of the bucket. You will need to size the lines for pressure and spike pressures. You will also need to look at systems on commercial tractors and see how they do it. Also (and this is important) be sure the tractor can handle the weight of the bucket and the material in the bucket. I have heard of tractors breaking in half due to having too much weight in the bucket and the tractor splits in two between the engine and transmission. I would look at Ford 660 tractors that have loaders and start from there.
