$4000- $8500 depending on condition.
Our JD950 has the lowest TCO in the shed.
Parts in the last 20+ years are: light bulbs, fluids, filters, seat and tires.
Not for sale.
Later,
Doug

I"ve got one that was made in about 1981. I paid $4500 for it less than a year ago with about 1300 hours and it came with an old 5" howse mower, a 6" box blade and a 3pt boom pole. I love the Yanmar engine. I can bush hog all day long and burn less than a tank of fuel. The engine is certainly strong enough for me. I run out of traction long before I run out of horsepower when pulling the box blade.

The only things that I really don"t like are:
1. Transmission PTO (not terrible since it has a built-in ORC). I think later models had a live PTO.
2. Gear drive transmission - that one is really a pain because you have to come to a complete stop to change gears. 3. No power stearing. This hurts because the palmetto roots will cause rapid kickback in the steering wheel if you aren"t careful - ouch.

All-in-all, a very decent tractor for the money.

What's coming with it? Belly mower? One for the 3pt and pto? Back blade? Even with all of the above, if pay $6K, that's that absolute top end on one if you ask me, and had better be in good running order too. You'd be hard pressed to get anymore out of it, and if something major breaks, parts are not easy to find, and are not cheap. As someone whom has one of them too, there are better tractors for less. You're looking at about a 25 HP 3000# Yanmar tractor. There are worse, but certainly are better in just about every color, for less $$$.

You asked, been there, done that, would never do again.

Are your comments aimed at the 950 specifically, or the x50 class in general.

The reason I ask is that I have a 750, love it, and would buy another in a heartbeat.

850, 950, 1050 (turbo). These are the Japanese Yanmar tractors. There is another, think is a 900 something or other, contractor tractor.

There is no 750 in this group, and not familiar with it.

Au contraire, mon frere. Not only is there a 750 in that group, there's a 650 as well. 750 is a normally aspirated 3 cylinder Yanmar, 18 hp, 4 speed trans with a 2 speed rear. Essentially, a slightly smaller version of the 850.

Haven't had to spend money on parts lately, so you could be right about the cost, but the few times I HAVE had to spend money, the parts have been readily available from my friendly local John Deere dealer.

Don't confuse me as saying that there is no 750 or even 650. I'm not disputing that. They may be relatives to the 850/900HC/950/1050, but they are in their own sub-group, such as 40xx, 42xx and such. They certainly aren't covered in the tech manual (TM1192) for the tractors that I've listed, which only covers the tractors I've listed.

The main point that I was trying to make in the first place is that a 950 is a small, generally overpriced tractor that the Deere Guy has trouble getting parts for, and because of their age and country of origin, Japan, often will have to go to a third source (used market) for major parts. Been there, done that, and in either case, the parts are not inexpensive. Generally speaking, when buying a tractor, or whatever else, a big consideration is serviceability and parts, right? The Deere Guy's 2 miles from my place, and makes no difference because major parts just are not readily available for the tractors I've listed.

As someone that does own one, there are better, less expensive tractors in it's class, in a wide variety of colors, including both green and green.

Ah. Okay. My experience doesn't parallel yours, but that's what makes the world go around.

The reason You don't see many for sale is because nobody that owns one wants to get rid of it. In 10 years with mine and 3000 hrs 2 batterys and one cracked fuel filter base. Dosen't burn a drop of oil and starts in any weather.
