Man in Willard Missouri flipped his tractor today, when he tried to pull a stump. They believe he will be ok. Thats about all I know about it, saw it on the 10pm news.

I believe in some cases tractor roll overs / flips are a combination of poor operator judgment and worn out equipment. I've got a good friend that moved back to the family farm. In the last 2 years he has tipped his tractor/loader over 3 times. He has a 350 Farmall wide front with a F11 Farmhand loader w/ grapple. After the first accident (he had the loader up to a second story window getting a load of old plaster/lath, and went to back up while turning...oops), the loader frame is so sprung and bent that the last time it tipped over, he was stopped and getting off the tractor to cut the strings on a round bale in the bucket. When your tractor tips over standing still, it's time to take a good look at what's wrong! Out of the 3 accidents, he's only been in the hospital a total of 3 days...so he thinks he's about even.

The best way to remove stumps is Backhoe Trackhoe Dozer Loader stump grinder tractors NO . And ya read all the time about guys taking there tractors to the wood to pull log with this is another no no , dragen a log is just as dangerious as stump pullen unless you are useing some sort of arch to get the nose of the log off the ground and lifting the log up on the three point is what get ya in trouble as ya can not get the log high enough and if the ft. of the tractor goes up the log goes down and if it hits a root or jams into the ground the tractor will be up and over before you can get to the clutch .

I just don't understand what it is with these guys and trying to pull stumps. It's one of the most common causes of tractor accidents. I feel sorry for the guy but this just shouldn't be done.

You ever go to the tractor pulls?? If so how many of the pull the front ends off the ground. Most people that get in trouble pulling stumps aren't think well and figure well the front end has come up but if I pull just a little longer it will go back down and the stump will give. Problem is that doesn't happen, they hook a rock with the tire or some other thing and before they know what happened they have flipped

It's not that dangerous if done as you describe. The danger usually arises when the operator does something stupid, like hooking to something other then the drawbar (top link or axle) or jerking by taking a running start and breaking the chain or the hitch. The other problem is that people under estimate the stump, 20 minutes of shovel work will usually ease the process to a huge degree.

Have to contradict you here on something old. Horses do too pop wheelies. Just ask Allan. He knows all too well about popping wheelies on a horsey. Just didn't have his seatbelt fastened, durnit anyway. Harley
