The tractor is a Case 1960 631-L. The bearing went out on the #1 cylinder. When we removed the sleeves, we found crackes between the cylinders going down along side the sleeves. They extend down the full length of the upper casting. The cracks look old and I have used this tractor for 20 years, without any engine problems ( no coolant in the oil or engine leaks of any kind)I would appreciate any help I can get on determining if this block can be repaired or if it is considered junk. If it can be repaired, what you have found to be the best fix for this motor.

I still have one of those little 188 diesels in a case 1740 skid loader. Have never had to get inside the engine,so I cannot comment about working on that model.
On the old 2 cycle Detroit diesels,a part that showed an ovious crack was not considered bad if it passed a pressure leak test. The same may work for your Case. I have also heard that the stress of tighting head and main bolts during a rebuild can make an old sealed crack leak. The advice of an experienced case mechanic or engine rebuild shop person may be of great value to you.
