Hello and thanks again for all of you that have helped us in the past. i'am looking at a wd45 nf tomorrow and the guy said he rebuild the carb because he was having problems. i don't want any one elses problems but i just want to make sure that it is not burn't valves or anything like that. can anyone tell me how to do a quick check for that or is that not possible. he is asking around 900.00 for the unit and it needs a seat and it has a three point on it. this sounds fair to me as it is a good ol straight tractor. i'am going to offer him around 800.00 cash and he will probably take it. if i get burned i will just part the thing out. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, Gary

Sometimes the needle valve that allows gas to run into the float chamber sticks in the up (closed) position. This can cause sporatic missing or outright engine stoppage if it sticks tight. I can usually determine if that's the problem by tapping on the side of the carb. That's usually enough to unseat the needle valve and get it going again. Fixing it? I honestly think it just needs to be run more. But, cleaning and replacing the needle valve has helped. It usually happens at the worst possible time.

You would have to do a compression test to find out if the valve where bad or something else. For that price you could part it out and make $$, been there done that before. It could still have carb problem, even though the carbs are simple they can be hard to get cleaned up when rebuilding them.
