Mornin' Guys,

There was a thread here recently about the value of a 686 Diesel tractor.

Boy, I gotta tell ya boys, if this thing isn't worth the $10K asking price, you'll never find another that is. The tractor is correct clear down to the "yellowish tint" to the white color.

Wish the heck that my old 686 would have only cost me $10K. I went the "cheap route" and fixed a $4800 686 up to field-ready condition. It ended up costing a heck of a lot more than this one, that's fer darned sure. :>(

Dunno, but I just think that the seller and the buyer both know what this ol' gal is worth.

Just my opinion,

Allan

Well, my brother is the one with this machine. He went ahead and bought it. The dealer is taking care of the steering leak that we located this weekend, and then it'll be coming to my shed until Spring. This is gonna be a worker. Mostly 9ft haybine, but V-Rake and 336JD square baler from time to time. It will have a buggy style red umbrella canopy and a fender mounted radio, then good to go.
Thanks to all for your help in making this decision. Especially Allan!

For that size and that clean of a tractor 10K is CHEAP. Go down to the local CNH Global dealer (Red or Blue) and ask the price of a TN75 2wd, or it's red clone.

I have had a 686 with the 310 German diesel for many years. It has just about 9000 hrs. Only engine work was to replace the head gasket. Most likely by useing ether for starting.I plug it in for starting now.( No more ether)It,s a handy size tractor, and a good puller, still running good, with only moderate oil consumption. I do have a 766 for the heavier work now.

Nice tractor if that's what you want, but here in ohio you can buy a 986 with cab and air for that.
Most of the case IH dealers are out of bussiness,
either went belly up or ran off with a bunch of case money.

I am by no means qualified to speak on the price. Even being an Oliver fan, I gotta say that is one good looking tractor.

Been watching the thread with intrest on that 686, glad to finally see a picture of it.

Hi MH,

Heck, me neither.

Guess it depends on it's intended purpose. As a parade queen, 'course it isn't worth the grit.

However, if a feller is gonna put her in the field, I just think it is well worth the price.

These are some pullin' "brutes". Look at the optional over-sized tires on that ol' mama! She's a worker! :>)

I know I sure wouldn't take $10K for mine.

That thing does have a mean stance with all that rubber. Shoot makes me want to set behind the wheel of one of those old red tractor (don't tell my brother I said that though).

As far as the 686 Mark?? is looking at, you are right about getting the work done for that price. If that 686 is in the condition that he describes it will give years of hard work.
