ATTN: Diesel experts. Got a problem guys...Have a tractor (White 2-135) w/ original hercules engine. Swapped a Continental Truck engine (former military and multi-fuel). Trouble is, now she starts hard and smokes bad. New injectors have been installed, suspect timing or pump? Injector pump is American Bosch that came with the engine. It is a "distributor" type not inline. Options are, as we see it, to time this thing properly or go back to original tractor pump. Latter not good, requires changing timing gears. Thanks in advance!! Ben

Diesel or gas mode? How would I tell? I definitely am not a diesel mechanic; probably obvious...LOL The tractor actually belongs to my uncle and I'm trying to help him get it running right. I figure there's some good diesel experts on here..Thanks again for everyone's input. Ben

Make sure you don't have a leaky fitting or bleeder someplace that is sucking in air. We had that problem on a multi-fuel truck engine.

I've been helping my dad work on this engine. A mechanic told us we should run the overheads and see if that would help (yes we are still working on it.) I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about doing that. Any help would be appreciated. Skyler
