Ok here is the thing. At our local junk yard there is a JD 12A pull behind combine. It"s corn holding box is bent in and the back is dented. All of the belts and pullys are there. The wheels are good and there. The inside thresher part is great and Everything is there. They are asking 175 dollars for it. My question is this. My dad walked around it and said that it was a peice of SH1t because of the bent tin work on the out side. I think he is wrong and it is great deal. Also there is no rust and most of the paint is there. If I don"t convence him it will get crushed. I think that it is stupid not to get it. What do you guys think

I know of one with pretty good sheet metal near Columbus WI the guy would pry give you if you asked nice. It's been outside and the canvasses are gone.

If it is an engine driven unit and the engine will crank, that alone is worth 175 dollars. The LUC can be used to repower an LA tractor. I'd buy the engine off it and leave the combine. Like others said, there are a lot of them out there and if you need the canvasses, you're gonna double your cost without touching the sheet metal. See if you can figure out who was the previous owner and whether or not they have the canvasses sitting in the shed somewhere.

Good luck whatever you do.

I've got the remains of a 12A that I took the engine off from. It will be sold for scrap at my brother's farm auction in March. Stevens County, MN

It would be hard to say what that combine would be worth. I have seen them sell from under a 100 bucks to over a thousand so you are on your own there. A 12-a is a common combine as far as jd pull types go. It is easier to find a 30 but without looking I feel safe in saying that more 12-a's were built than 30's. If you need a canvas that will cost in the hundreds, but I dont recall exactly how much. A nicely restored 12-a combine would make nice addition to any tractor collection and would go with about any two cylinder tractor. If you got a place to put it and some money to burn, make and offer see what happens. Good luck!

I know of one in Central Wiconsin, that"s been shedded all the time, works. I think you could get it for that price.

My uncle had a 12A. This man never spent a penny without thoroughly researching a machine so you know that any purchase was well thought out. He always maintained that a 12A was even better than the Allis Chalmers combines of that era in that they also had that wide body and seive area which did an excellent threshing and cleaning job and you didn't have to contend with the side discharge of the Allis's.
