I wanted to bring this to the top to be sure you would see it. Below you described 2/0 battery cables as "too big" on a 1650. I want to read your thoughts on the problems associated with cables that are too big. TIA, RickB

the ones I used from McMaster Carr are too thick to properly fit from side to side and left side to starter. I can't put the center platform trim plate back on. Also worry that one will rub thru and short out. I believe that 1/0 will work ok and still be heavier than factory.
Thinking strongly about going to 2 12 volt spiral wound batteries with each one grounded to the chassis. Still need to figure out the wiring thinking 1/0 with a tee connector on the left battery positive terminal. Believe this will give me more amphours. This tractor prefers preheat crank 5 seconds preheat then hit the starter with preheat. Runs the 6 volts down still prefer this to ether. My uncle had the engine rebuild left the old cables on with a replacement end then had to ether it to start. I replaced the cables and still had to ether it to start when cold. Ended up blowing head gasket on no 2 cylinder while plowing in september. Replaced the head gasket added the heater in elbow. Now need a reason to run it so I can see how it will start with the heater. Have not used ether since replacing the head gasket. Also replaced the thermostat it was stuck open. The block, sleeves and head all checked out ok. The sleeves still had crosshatching showing. 20 acreas of plowing with 4-16's hopefully now has the rings seated.

OK. My small mind was off in the direction that there is an electrical reason that a cable is 'too big'. That wasn't adding up.
