My dad's f150 lariat with the electric climate control (the one with the digital display) is getting to where the heater (and I guess the AC too) is blowing out of just the defroster. We had one that did this with the nobs and I believe it was something to do with a control valve. Do any of you know what causes this, how to fix it and how much it will cost. Also, could you tell me where to locate this air flow director and how to change out the solenoid or vacume piston, which ever it uses or if it is a vacume operated system, where a leak may be and where the line is. Thanks

Hurst

My 99 F350 did the same thing...but I did not hear any hissing noise. My electronic vaccum pump went out. It is located on top of the right fender back towards the fire wall on my truck. I just pulled off the hose and there was no suction from the pump...so, mine was pretty easy to trouble shoot. I think the cost was around $170...dealer only item.

Easy to fix...just not cheap on my truck anyways...

Good Luck,
Tim

Can you look and see if this vacume pump has a green cap on it. If so, I know what you are talking about. Does it have 2 about 3/8" hoses running to and from it. Also, wouldn't this also effect the brakes too since they are vacume assisted? If you can send a picture, that would be great also.

Check for a broken plastic vacumm hose in the engine compartment, back towards the firewall. Should be a hose diagragm on the radiator support. The hose will go to a vacumm reserve tank. That happened to my future son-in-laws Mustang.

I forgot to mention that when I was driving the truck, I heard a small hissing sound when idling. Would this be a leaking or broken vacume line? I am assuming it may be split because of the cold weather? It sounded like it was coming from between the foot vents and the controls.
