Do you remember when your Dad purchased his first tractor or the first time you saw one delivered to the farm? I remember having the 8N delivered to the farm but I don't remember my Dad being there at the time. It was exciting for me but since I don't remember Dad being there I don't know his reaction. I was wandering if the old folks got excited when the tractor was delivered. I know it had to be a big decision for them as money was tight.

It was August, 1952, and I was 8, when Dad came home from town driving a '49 Farmall M that had been completely gone through and re-painted by the local IH dealership. We already had a '43 H. I thought that M was the biggest thing I'd ever seen. I still have both tractors.

Fall of '51, I was seven years old and we had a '39 WC and a model C. Dad traded the C for a '47 WC with mounted picker. Dad wasn't home, so the dealer told me to remind Dad that there was no antifreeze in the tractor- kind of important in MN in October.

I wasen't born yet, but around 1938 or 39 my Dad bough his only new tractor a A/C Model M. He would tell me the time he had to get rid of his horses, as they were no longer needed. He took them to San Diege Zoo to be used as food for the lions, and said he cried all the way home. Stan

My Dad WAS the delivery guy.
I went on lots of those trips, but never got to drive any of the tractors delivered. Rode on a milk crate turned upside down in the cab of the truck since there wasn't a seat. No seatbelt either.

In the spring of 1951 Dad bought his first tractor. A used 1940 J D B. He sold four of the 19 horses that spring. I did not get to drive that tractor for four years as I enlisted into the U S Navy that spring. When the tractor was delivered I was working in Kansas City for TWA and a month later was in the navy.

I was born May 1 1944 and dad spring seeded with his brand new BR Deere so can't say that I would remember seeing the first tractor on this farm. BUT I definately remember him trading the BR on a brand new 1954 TEA Fergie !

Even though I was not very old, I remember when my Father took delivery of his SW6-TA in April 15th, 1956. The tractor was a new leftover model. The dealer tried to sell him one in 1954. He had 4 in stock. In 1954 my Father completed major barn expansion and put in a barn cleaner, so I guess that the budget was stretched. Besides the W-6 was still doing the job. In 1955 a neighbour got a Massey-Harris 44 Special with LPTO. My Father priced a M and W LPTO for the W-6, but he decided to wait. Then in winter 55-56, He made the deal for the SW6-TA. It must have been quite an improvement from the W-6, and it had hydraulics. I also remember my Father saying that in 1955 he thought that the MH 44S was a better tractor than his W-6 (a wartime unit, bought in 1944). The SW6-TA apparently took care of the Massey's lunch.... We all know what IH's big stick could and would do!!!! QR

I was standing in the yard when the IH guys drove in with the new 400 diesel. I thought it was the biggest, best looking tractor I had ever seen. Then a few years later dad added a Ford 4000. The dealership was about 15 miles away, and as a boy of about 10 or 11, I was in 7th heaven when dad let me drive it home.

It was an Oliver Super 55, w/2 row cultivator & 3 pt. plow. They hauled away an old Oliver 70, a corn binder & some other things. Mom & Dad are gone, but we still have the Super 55.

I remember the AC dealer delivering the new Allis D15 when I was 11 years old. Dad was still in the house taking his after dinner nap so he showed me how to run it. After dad came out he had me drive the new tractor to the field and he took the Fergie. Do you think dad was spoiling me?

Cowman, no you werent being spoiled. Your Dad just wanted to drive the better tractor.

But then I grew up with the Fergies. First a new TE20 and later the TO30. And I was there when both tractors were delivered.
