Was looking for christmas decorations for the wife today. Was going thur boxes, that have not been opened in years. Some were from Dads basement. He past away several years ago. In one box I found 2 Massey Harris Clipper Combine manuals. Both are well used ,dusty and all there. I can remember the combine so well, I was about
12 when it left the farm for a Newer Mf pull tye with a auger feed header. Set down and looked thur the books for a long time. Remembering all the hours we used it the adjusting on the canvas, and combining beans in January one year in the snow. because of a real wet fall.Wife said we should put them on e-bay
along with the other owner manuals and old farm
equipment booklets and a box of men of Iron alot of steam tractor booklets. I'm afraid they wont bring any thing and they will be gone! Are they worth selling?

Short

I do some selling on E-bay in the winter to supplement re support farming.

Most of what I sell is farm related paper such as your manuals and ad literature.

Manuals are softer than literature. Condition is everything. If they are in the condition you describe you will have a tough time. Someone else will always have something a little better shape. Demand has something to do with price also. Don't know how many people are looking for Clipper manuals out there.

My advice is if you had the memories I think you did looking through those books it would be a shame to sell them. The value to the public will be a fraction of what the memories of your father are. I consider myself a small dealer of sorts yet there are certain books I won't sell for the above stated reason.

If you do decide to sell do a search like you are looking to buy the manual you are about to sell. If you click the "completed items" box on the left you will get a idea of what the demand is judging by what actually sells also a good idea on value.

All in all like the rest I would suggest keeping them.

HTH

I would hang on to them... I still have the book for my Dad's Ford 8N, the tractor I grew up with... As a kid, I read that book dozens of times, & my Mom was always trying to get me to read schoolbooks, instead... The 8N book was more interesting... 8^)

It has been my experience that ONLY the actual tractor manuals will bring any real money on e-bay. I am sure that the combine manuals and old magazines will eventually sell, but they WILL NOT bring enough money to make it worth the time it takes to list them, and for sure they won't bring enough to replace the memories that you will be losing. Keep those manuals, they are worth much, much more to you than anybody else.

They will sell on Ebay. Somebody will want them. I've got some manuals from some of Dad's equipment. They're worth more to me than somebody else would want to pay.

By all means KEEP THEM !! Memories are priceless, any money gained by selling them will soon disappear. I have my maternal grandmother's kitchen hutch that I've been offered $5000. for. Instead, it's going to my daughter who cherishes it and the memory of her great grandmother ----priceless !!

Hang onto them. I have some of the operator's manuals, ledgers and such from my Dad's equipment, and even before when it was ****** Brothers INC.
Brings back lots of memories of things that can never be replaced or talked about again.
I wish I had not been such a smart as* and done the same with my Mom's parents things.

Hi Short Bolt. I still have all of the old manuals and machinery my dad had. If i were you i would put them in a book case and keep them. I bet you would enjoy looking through them every once in a while. Want to wish you and all of your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe 2006. Archie.
