Hi Guys,

Started this long drawn out process of preppin' this old tractor for a coat of paint. 100% certain this is the original paint and I'm takin' her clear down to metal.

Nebraska Cowman said a long time ago that IH never used any primer and he's right. Only primer I've found so far was on the fiberglass cowl covers; everything else is straight paint to metal.

And if you use the Case-IH 2150 you will not need any primer under the new paint. The only reason you might want to use primer is if you need to fill some surface imperfections, or have used some body filler to take care of some dents.

Looks smooth. Is this after sanding, or did you use your wire brush rig on this hood?

Hi Kent,

That was just the brush. I finished it up this morning; didn't come out too darned bad.

We'll see how it looks after the paint tho. :>)

talk about cutting corners or did they use special paint. i guess as long as the paint sticks and no underneath rust doesn't matter ,right? i bought a 686 several years ago and surface rust everywhere. nice tractor just a bad case of brain injury at the auction.

Darned if I know. The odd part is they are always coated up real good on the inside. Go figure.

Don't ever remember seeing one where the paint actually came off, but being red, they are prone to "sunburn".

Aw heck, I have brain fade every time I buy one. But, they sure are fun bringin' back from the brink. :>)
