I am VERY new to tractors. I need one for gardening. I have looked at so many lately my mind is starting to really hurt. I have found a 53 Ford Jubilee, it needs work, has power steering and a three point hitch. I like th AC B because it sits higher. I know I am probably starting a Ford vs Chevy thing here....but I cannot make up my mind.

You don"t want either. Like some said the B is tow only. What do you call gardening? A plot, five acres? If it"s the common little garden you might look into a large garden tractor with tiller capabilities or a pull behind self powered tiller. The small fords are a good size but good mainly if your working with pull behind tools. (plow, cultivator, disk) Not too good for a tiller.
Somebody here could probably list the tractors that fit in this category: 20-35hp, live-independent PTO, slow or creeper speed, power steering if you decide on a front end loader later, 3-point. Most of the lttle fords don"t fit the bill for the PTO or speed.

Are you sure it"s a 53 jubilee? They were not available with power steering. It is possible to add it from a 600 series though. Like John said they are not comparable tractor. The Allis Chalmers B is a better garden tractor than the Ford is especialy if you get the mounted cultivators.

I`m an Allis guy, but in this case you aren`t talking about equal tractors. And, they shouldn`t be equally priced. The B should be much less expensive than the Ford. I'd have to go with the Ford, if that`s the only two there are to pick from. But, for what I suspect you will have to pay to get the Ford, there are lots of other Allis tractors to be had, that will do a lot more for you than the Ford will. In my neck of the woods you`ll find many D series Allis`s cheaper than a Ford Golden Jubilee. Heck, you can buy most D-19 gas tractors cheaper than you can buy the little yuppie ford toy.

As the D series gets smaller the price goes up. Watched in astonishment as a D17 with loader sold for $3500, my father in law bought it and started using it that night. Watched in equal amazement as a D12 sold for $6700 a couple weeks later.

The Jubilee is the better tractor for the job he has, but it will probably be priced 2 or 3 times higher too.

Go with the Jubilee.
I grew up on a AC B and they are great machines.
But when it comes to versatility it just can"t compare to the Ford. They made a couple of Hundred different implements to fit on the 3 point hitch where as the B is really just a drawbar tractor.
Good Luck

I have both tractors and use them to manage 20 acres with 12 acres being a woodlot. The B is perfect for getting in close places in the woods to pull logs out. I'm 59 and it is getting hard for me to get on and off the tractor. The Ford seems to be a little more universal. I have a lot of attachments for it. I really like it for the ease of getting on and off. I use them both and would not sell either one. Love them.

My grandad had a B. It was a great cultivating tractor for a garden. We used a pull type plow and springtooth and grandpa rigged up a blade to the cultivator frame to grade dirt and plow light snow. It was a great cultivator tractor.

I own a Ford 600 same as a Jubilee. The 3 pt is great will do alot more than a B however it is not as good at cultivating.

Depends on if your main purpose is garden work or if you want to plow deep snow move dirt and mow grass.

By the way i don't think a Jub came from the factory with power steering mght be a 600.

The B is a nice tractor. We've got one. Lack of a 3-point hitch makes it difficult to use gardening. But, you can put an aftermarket one on, solving that problem.

Compared to a modern tractor, neither machine is very good in a garden.

I am a Allis lover and owned a B, but go with the Ford jubilee. You will find it much more use full. That is of course if you can buy it right. 3 point and power steering make all the diference.

Well the AC-B is a 22HP tractor rated for a one bottom plow and the ford Jub. is a 31HP tractor rated for a 2 bottom plow. The B will not have a 3 point other then maybe an add on type the Jub does. The Jub also has live hyds the B doesn't if I remember right. Both are good tractors and both aren't to bad to find parts for. The AC should be a lot cheaper then the Ford also. The Ford should go for around $2500 and the B for around $1500. Thats if all is good on them and the tires are good
