According to my Father, the Oil company said the vent pipe is too small - 3/4in right now. I planned make it 1 1/2in. I'm in Central NY if this makes any difference. What do you guys think, as everytime I talk to my dad about it he says somethign different. The tank is roughly 275 gallons. Would appreciate some input on this one. Thanks! -Mike

Spend my days delivering home heating oil. Vent should be 1 1/4, if tank cannot be dipped, must have vent alarm and guage. And don't tie yur dog to the fill pipe, or plant a prickley bush infront of it..... .....

Either 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 is fine. Those tanks come either way.

From my years as a fuel delivery driver I can tell you the 1 1/4" is correct, but 1 1/2" will be okay too. 3/4" is definitely too small, when the tank is full you can't get the nozzle shut off before you make a mess. Also good to have a turndown that is at least 12 inches above the ground and a screen to keep out the critters.

Around here they will not fill tank with Plastic pipe or with ,had to turn it up with a vent cap on it----- ----- also if you have a fire in that area and that plastic pipe burns then you will have a BIG FIRE

Here in MA code is 1-1/4" for a 275 tank and you should use swing joints in the fill and vent piping to allow for any movement of the tank. Simple to do just use 2 elbows and a close nipple or an elbow and a street elbow at the first 90 coming off the top. HTH JF
