Hey guys, The coil spring in my resistor that glows red when starting has broken. Do I have to buy a new spring or an entire new resistor? Also where can I find these parts? I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Frank

Bought one a couple of months ago from C/IH. About 39 dollars.

I know this sounds stupid, but what is C/IH? I presume it is a parts dealer.

If your tractor has the same type I've seen on some of the older equipment before (the coil is under a cover that looks sorta like the top of a salt shaker), you might try checking with Beru. I bought a used Hatz a few years ago that had resisters like this and needed just the covers. I lucked out and talked to the right person and they sent me two covers free of charge. I can't guarantee you the same results since the complete unit was a bit more pricey but everyone I talked to was more than happy to help. Good luck

Your right, it looks like a salt shaker. I have been starting the tractor with starting fluid, but I don't like to use it.

Frank... I replaced the defective glow plug indicator on my '69 b414 diesel with a ceramic ballast resistor from an old Chrysler. It doesn't glow , but works fine if you count off the seconds( 10 to 30 secs. depending on the ambient temp). It cost 5$ at a wrecker compared to 70$ plus taxes for an IHC OE indicator. Good luck. Fabie.

I thought about using an auto resistor, but I thought it might not be heavy duty enough. If you used one I think I will give it a try. What guage wire did you use?

Not sure but I suspect it will be the same as for a Landrover of the same era.
