I have recently purchased a restored '58 801 powermaster, diesel. Beautiful, strong, impressive machine. However, the lifting action is confusing. I am aware of the automatic draft. Is it necessary to engage the lift arms upward and then press downward on the auto draft control lever to fully raise the implement? Secondly, the arms will not stay in the lift position. They slowly fade downward. I have noticed fluid leaking around the PTO shaft. Signed..... Impressed, but ignorant.

2 problems with the lift. Worn follower pin under the cover will exhibit the lift only working with the draft lever depressed. Internal leak, possibly worn o rings on lift piston.

Pto shaft seal leaking. Elevate rear, remove the 4 bolts shaft slips out. Don't move pto lever from neutral until replaced. This assumes you have a 851 or 861.
