Same problem in maine.! dealer just ran out, thought their supply would last till april.pellets cost over 300.00 a ton.Cant make sense of grinding up solid wood and gluing it back together.Probably using a lot of trash wood and brush to make pellets.Dealer said people must be hoarding wood pellets.Ive been hoarding fire wood for over 55 years not.A squirrel knows enough to put some acorns away for winter.Saw a pallet of shelled corn at a walmart store.Corn makes more sense you can grind some for corn bread.Corn was used for fuel in the 1930s depression should work in the one coming up.

Jerry, have I got a deal for you. I'm just east of you a ways over here in Springfield, Mo. and while we don't have any pellet trees, thus no wood pellets, we do have lotsa rabbits, hence lotsa rabbit pellets. Might be a little rank till ya got used to them burning, but I bet they'd work. Git er done, Harley

up here in mi. the place i get my laying mash (chicken food) the howard the owner said he could supply me with corn alot cheaper thanwood even and it's alot cleaner in the house and you can side vent out the side of the house. saves a bundle on having to build a chimney. but the cost is real high, like 1300.00. thats one reason i dont have one. i used to burn would for about 13 years ago, but the mess and i'm getting a little old to want to split wood and stack it and carry it through the house.i have nat gas now. boy did we get set up.wood is 50/wk x 4 =200.00/month. gas 150.00 and going up as i type.

Stillwater Milling usually carries them, as does Raby's Stoves in Sapulpa. And I think Orschleins in Muskogee has them, but not for sure. Hope this helps. CL

Jerry, Notify your stoves manufacturer and see if you can burn corn or some other combustible product in the stove. They are basicly biomass stoves and can handle different fuels if adjusted correctly.

Jerry, You might try a visit to the local feed store and pick up a small bag of whole corn and give it a try. You may make a mess of ash that you would have to clean up. I dont see how it could ruin your auger unless it is very small and thin. I have tried corn in my two stoves and it works well in both of them with very little air adjustment. Just keep an eye on your stack temperatures to make sure it isnt overheating and blowing out to much of you money.

Thats why we went with wood. Lot cheaper stove, wood is cheap and very good supply, ussually just cost me a hanshake, or a few hours work. Heating my house this year on $20 investment in wood. Stove paid for itself in LP savings the first year (last year). So far this year our regular furnace has only ran one day. We were gone along time. I dont expect to use more than 100 gallons of LP this winter. Stove was $700.

One reason for the pellets is that it self feeds, it is hard to get up every couple hours to load wood and when you are at work the stove burns out.

Midwest, don't know what kinda stove you've had experience with, I have a Blaze King manufactured stove, model Blaze Princess which is the smallest airtight they make, I filled it up at 10 pm last nite w/pine, not a hardwood, it burns all nite. I got up 5:45 AM to get boy off to school, nice toasty 70* this morn. Will have to admit did not get that cold last nite, was 10* at my place 6 AM.
I am in northeastern part of Oregon. I have never burnt over 3 cord a season, usually start burning in Oct and quit some time in March.....

I have a Lopi stove, high eff. it can heat a 1500 sq ft2 house. I dont pack it full but with the damper fully pulled it only burns about 3 hrs. I have seen the blaze kings on the internet but I think all stoves burn out in a few hours.

We got a couple pallets of wood pellets and then they got hard to get here in Minnesota, haven"t bothered looking anymore for them, guess they will be out until next summer, lucky the stove burn pellets or corn, so hauled in a bunch of corn and have been burning that, my Dad and Brother pretty much ended up doing the same thing..

Several people I know who use pellet stoves have told me pellets are hard to come by if you didnt buy them ahead, also the price is at least $100/ton higher then they were during the summer when you get an off season discount.

No surprise to me - same thing happened 30 years ago the last time everyone thought they were going to save a pile on energy. Shortage first, high prices second, rusting out pellet and corn stoves from lack of use third.

I'd almost bet a lot of money that we'll never run out of corn thats cheap enough to burn. Wood pellets maybe, because thats almost like the oil and gas they are trying to replace. Wood pellets are made to be burned and those making them can control the price/availability. Not so with corn.

We aren't helping the problem any, but I too would not buy a pellet only stove - the fuel market can be controlled/ limited even more than petro burners! :) Corn/pellet stoves, you should be able to get fuel for the next 50 years or so pretty easy. Pellets, you can only get as long as they make....
