I know a cord is 4x4x8,but how much wood would it take to fill a 8 ft bed pickup dumped in?

The pickup bed is 8' long by 5'? wide, by 1.5'" deep, so that's 60 cubic feet, not excepting the wheel wells. So, that's just shy of 1/2 a cord, as you say, dumped in. Loose. Stacked is a different game. You can expect shrinkage of about 20% when you stack that wood. If you put a slight heap on the truck, you'll have 1/2 a cord, and a pretty good load on your average 1/2 ton truck. HTH.

Rod is right . I normaly fill in all the holes (so that the corners are full, etc.) in the load and go just about 6 inches higher in the center of the load ( 1/2 cord). Just about a ton give or take.

AS for your normal 1/2 , 3/4 ton pickup 1 & 1/2 cord would be a load and than some. 128 cu ft in a cord. Wieght around 4000 and up for a cord, so that would be 4000-6000 maybe more if all oak or other heavy hard wood. Don't get nailed for overloading. AS for me I stop at 3/4 cord for hauling out of the woods to farm for storage ( 1/2 ton truck ).

If it is a loose stack you will be lucky to get 1 face cord. 2 face cord stacked will be a couple inches over the bed with 5 rows. So you can get from 1 to 2 face cord tossing it on. I have gotten 2 face tossed on before, but it is piled real high.

I stack the firewood in, One row across the backend, so you can still close tailgate. That is five and one half feet. (Full size ). Then stack three rows down the middle, from the cab to your row across the back. With 16" - 18" you should get three rows between the wheel wells. These rows should be six and a half feet. Comes out like this, 3 x 6 1/2 + 5 1/2 ft, is 25 ft. 2 ft high, is a little over half a cord, this gives the customer an idea, with tape measure, your not raking them over the coals. Loose stack 2 ft high is close to this measurement. ,,,, Bernsy

Depending on whether you have a 1/2 ton or 3/4 . Dumped in on a half ton will be roughly a cord . If you stack it in, you may get 1 1/2 cord . My experience . Stay warm . Ken

I have bought hard wood edgings from a 4x4x4 pipe frame. This is 1/2 cord. Stacked in it filled an 8 foot pickup bed.Sawed to stove length and thrown back in loose it rounded up.You will have one hell of a time stacking 1 and a halfcord of wood into a pick up bed that contains 60 cubic feet of space.A standard cord will shrink to 100 cu. feet when sawed to stove length. Not to mention the weight of 6000 pounds for a cord and half. This will make your 1/2 ton truck ride pretty low.A ton and a half truck would be badly over loaded with a cord and a half on board.
