give her a trip she'll never forget. go to a farm show. it's one she'll never forget, neither will anyone else. speaking from experiance. 10 years and 4 kids later. just be ready for everyone to look at you a little funny, but years of laughs and memories.

Go to the Grotto of The Redemption in West Bend. I'm not a official Catholic but man, was I overwhelmed. The Bridges of Madison County in the town of Winterset (also birthplace of John Wayne) is on 169 south and west a little of Des Moines. Surf Ball Room in Clear Lake (Last concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper, the place is pure, appears like they did a concert yesterday. Plus all the places the others said. I'm from Michigan, have been Pheasant Hunting in Greene Co. Iowa for last 24 years, made many friends and lost some of the best. I like it so much the wife and I go there for the heck of it. My daughter was conceived in Jefferson IA. One thing I have not done is go to the State Fair but you can bet I will. Wonderful Place, Wonderful People. Another thing of interest is a memorial to a young girl named Kate Shelly outside of Boone. Quite a story there too.

You could go to the Oliver museam in Charles City. Then go on done to Waterloo and go though John Deere.Good eating in the Amanas but costly/tuorist trap.

The Ammana Colinies have a really great tractor show on Fathers Day every year, I think this comming will be their 21st. On the east end of Homestead they have the Minneapolis Moline people, on the west end of town they have the Allis Chalmers people, the daily parade goes from each end of the town and goes thru the other brands display. DON'T miss the end of the MM parade, they put some straw thru one of the big old combines as well as some other supprises!!! I belive this is one of the best/most overlooked shows in Iowa.

Pella has a neat working dutch windmill / Grist mill. Works on the weekends and can be toured. Pretty cool..

The Amana Colonies.

Boon Scenic Valley Rilroad. Boasts the last steam locamotive built. Exported from China's Datong Locomotive works. It was built in the 80s. It is a 40s something Baldwin plans locomotive.

Then there is the Grinnell Airport. I spend a lot of time there.

There is a hotel directly across the street from Deere plaza in Moline. 3 hours or so from the Little Brown church.

Downtown Moline has the John Deere Pavilion, short ways from there is the John Deere plant where they build the front end loaders and combines. I think they repair the earth movers that come back from Iraq also. Close to that plant is an AGCO plant that builds combines. Out on river rd. is the John Deere headquarters and a very nice display of early tractors. Downtown has the Kone elevator test tower but its not open to visitors. I-80 truck stop is on 80 north bypass and its a nice place to visit.

Reminds me of the Big R driver that got married in Omaha and was going east on I-80 with his new bride and he reached over and put his hand on her knee and she said let's go a little farther, so he drove to Des Moines. Harley
