MF 165 stuck in reverse!

Help! How do i get the tractor out of reverse? Do I have to take off the cover to the gear shifts and do it ....how? Some one please direct me to a site or a thread of discussions using very very begginer terms! How do you get those dang bolts off that haven't been off in about 100 yrs anyhow? wd40? anything better? thanks, Stuck in Reverse!

I've had that problem with my MF35, just like Harold said, it always works for me.

Just like Harold said, seems to be somewhat common on MF have a 202 that does the same thing....Jim

It should work just like my 175, take out the filler plug, big hex plug right next to the shifter, reach in there with a big screwdriver and fiddle with the shift rails until all the notches line up and you can move the shiftlever sideways in neutral. Then you should be able to shift every gear. Once you have done it a couple of times it will get easier. To avoid this in the future, without repairing anything, be very careful to shift straight into neutral out of reverse. Don't try to move the shift lever cross ways until you are sure it is in neutral. Eventually you will have to remove the lever and build the end up with weld and reshape it to its original size.
