Ok Minne MO fans. I purchased a 49 RTU with a wide front. It seems to me that the wide front is not all that common an option. The casting and the way it is built appear to be a factory production item. I would like to know how many wide fronts were produced and does anyone have one?

If your ID plate says RTU then as "old" said the
frontend was changed. It should read RTS for the
standard wide front or RTE for the extended or
adjustable wide front. The RTE is probably the
rarest front end as it was made for the fewest
number of years. I think even the RTN with the
single front wheel were more plentiful then the
RTE model.

My guess is if its a RTU like you said the wide front was added at some point since form what I have learned the T in your model refers to a trike front end. The R is the model, the T stands for trike and the U for utility or unaversal.
