I've been wanting to get a subsription to a magazine related to old tractors in general. Although we have several older issues of Red Power (and I just ordered a few more back issues), we also have several AC tractors and also a few Ford tractors, so I was wondering about which magazine has the best info and articles? I've heard of Belt Pulley and Gas Engine Magazine but no others. I'm not trying to start a magazine war, but wanted to get some feedback from those of you that are like us--more than one brand of tractor on the property and who like to read a good old fashioned magazine in front of the fire from time to time.

Kevin,
Go to this webpage and on the bottom is some links to old tractor magazines with links to each one. Also if you click on the "CLUBS" button it will bring up most of the national tractor clubs with links and info.

I am not putting Antique power down here but I want to say it doesn't go very deep into details of how to, how it was done, etc. It is mostly pictures of people's tractors with a brief article about how it was restored. I have seen some very interesting articles, but they only made me want to know more of the details, which weren't there. Nice pictures, many ads both from individuals and businesses, some interesting columns, but limited in details.

Tractor Shop is another good all brand magazine. Covers all brands of tractors from the 60's to 80's

FARM COLLECTOR magazine is a good one. Articles on just about every brand you are familiar with plus some you've never heard of, along with the various implements and tools used long ago. I think there is a website, but just do a google search.

I used to have a good attitude towards Farm Collector magazine, because of the variety of articles. But when I got a sub for myself and my brother, they sent us a couple months of old issues, subtracted that from the subscription. Told them I don't care about mine, but you screwed my brother, lifetime Army Veteran, dying from emphysema, out of what he had coming. Don't subscribe anymore. Imagine that!

Thanks for all the replies--I wish we could afford all of the tractor mags. I like the looks of Tractor Shop but everything we own is 1960 vintage (Farmall Cub) or older. So that would narrow things down to Gas Engine, Antique Power or Belt Pulley, but that one looks like it includes foreign tractors which I have no direct interest in. So maybe we go with Antique Power but I would like to see more in-depth how-to articles. The restoration stories I've seen in some magazines-- while nice to read--are a little unimaginative and lacking in details. Not to disregard those who have done the restoration work but if we all wrote an article about our tractor restorations we wouldn't have enough hours in the day to read them all...
