Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about high crop tractors. I am wondering if there is a specific make of tractor that only made high crops, or if a tractor manufacturer used the words high crop on some of their tractors. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, there was a company that made only high crop tractors. Larson out of Tulia, Texas. I bought one to use for experimental work at CSU in Fort Collins. It originally had a VW 1600 bug engine but the engine was missing. I put a 2000 cc transporter engine in it plus a cab from a Gleaner E combine and about $8000 worth of Raven
spray equipment. It was a tall one. I am over six feet and I could walk upright anywhere under it.
Originally it was equipped to detassle corn for the seed corn business, but all that equipment was taken off. The USDA in Fort Collins also has one with a 2300 cc Ford water cooled engine. Ed

In South Louisiana there are more High Crop tractors than regular. They are used in the sugar cane fields because the crop is planted on rows that can be around 24" high. When the cane starts to grow you need the extra clearance to cultivate the fields. I have driven many different ones over the years and love the HC's. I do not know of any manufacturer that made only Hi Crop tractors, but I may be wrong...

tyler, I think being from sd you may think there is something unique about hi-crop tractors but in many areas that is all you see. If you were from south of the Mason-Dixon line you would not see anything unusual about them because there are 10s of thousands of them. The majority are JD and International but I suppose every major dealer either supplies modified tractors or receives them from the factory as hi-crops. Some are labeled Hi-Crop. Most are not. I am not aware of any recent manufacture by a company of hi-crop only tractors. Other equipment yes.
You don't see many here or in your area so some people think they are unique. They are not.

Would you find me a JD 630 or 730 High Crop for $3000-$4000 since high crops are so common and not unigue to you folks down south. Heck it doesn't even have to run.
